RATIONALE FOR NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNTS

The Project will award scholarships to a minimum of 20 full-time students in the Computer Science degree program. This decision was based on the number of students currently enrolled as well as the current trend of increasing enrollments due to recruitment, professional placements of graduates, and the incorporation of compatible curriculum training in the Allegany County secondary schools. The decision to award no more than this number of scholarships was based on the number of services, which will be made available to scholarship recipients. These services are time intensive for faculty and staff, but are deemed necessary to give the students every opportunity for success.

Individual recipients will be awarded $3,500 annually. This amount will be sufficient to cover nearly 80% of the student's total tuition and fees. The scholarship funds awarded will be available to be utilized for allowable education expenses through the College's Business Office.

Because retention of part-time students is traditionally lower than that of those attending full time, these funds will enable students chosen to receive scholarships to attend college full-time without the added burden of part time employment in order to keep current with their tuition and associated expenses.
