Medical transcription is a challenging
and constantly evolving career choice. Medical Transcriptionists (MT)
are vital members of the professional healthcare team. They provide an
important service to both physicians and patients by transcribing dictated
medical reports that document patients’ personal information and medical
care. This documentation plays a vital role not only in the care of the
patient, but also in billing and quality assurance. In order to properly
translate patient records, the MT must employ knowledge of medical terminology,
grammar, punctuation, and editing. Medical Transcriptionists must be fluent
in medical terminology and understand basic anatomy and physiology, disease
processes, and pharmacology. Basic and advanced knowledge of computers,
