FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Must I provide my own tools?
No. The automotive department has all tools and test equipment that you
may need.
- Will I be ASE certified at the completion of the program?
No. Everyone must take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification
tests to be certified. However, you will be well prepared to take these
tests at the completion of your automotive training.
- As a certificate student, may I take courses not required in this
option?
Yes. You may take any course(s) offered by this department (or any other
at the college) in addition to those required in the certificate program.
As a result, this will extend the time needed for the completion of your
degree.
- Are there other costs involved?
Yes. Each student pays a $20 tool deposit fee each semester which is partially
refundable at the end of the semester. In addition, many of the courses
require purchasing parts to complete various lab requirements. Depending
on the course, these costs can range from $50 to $1,500.
- Can I receive credit for any of the automotive courses I've taken
in high school or vocational technical school?
Possibly. We have articulation agreements with many of the high schools
and vo-tech schools in the tri-state area. This agreement allows two credit
hours toward the Related Automotive course at no charge.
- Will there be much hands-on experience?
YES! All of our courses have lab requirements which entail many hours
of hands-on work.
- Is there any financial help available?
Yes. The Financial Aid office can provide the necessary paperwork to apply
for various state and federal aid programs. In addition to the scholarships
specifically for automotive students, there are hundreds more available
through our Foundation Office.
