Region XX Divison I Tournament

The Trojans' season ended on Saturday with a controversial 80-78 loss to the Chesapeake College Skipjacks in the semi-final round of the Region XX Division I Championship. ACM led for most of the game and were up 67-64 with 7:13 left in the second half. George DeGroat converted 2 foul shots to boost the lead to 69-64. A quick "3" by Chesapeake showed on the scoreboard as 67-67. DeGroat's points were not recorded in the official scorebook and when Coach Mike Baker pointed out the mistake he was told that the score was official and would not be changed. The Trojans therefore lost two points in a two-point loss. Coach Baker was quick to point out that the Trojans had 3 opportunities in the final minutes to take the lead or tie and turned the ball over without a shot getting off and could have won the game without the scoring error. The Trojans out-shot (32-27) and had 16 more rebounds than Chesapeake but lost the game at the foul line as the Skipjacks converted 16 of 27 attempts while the Trojans made 8 of 12.
George DeGroat scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Ryan Burts had 15 points and Calvin Lee added 10 points to the Trojan effort.
ACM shot well from the field converting 26 of 53 two-pointers (49%) and 6 of 11 three-pointers (55%).

The Trojans defeated to Potomac State College Catamounts 72-55 to advance to the semi-final round of the Region XX Division I Championship hosted by Hagerstown CC. ACM held an 8-7 edge 7 minutes into the game and out-scored the Cats 24-10 over the next 6 minutes to take a 32-17 lead. The Trojans then went scoreless for the rest of the half and Potomac State closed to within 5 points (32-27) at halftime. The cold streak continued into the second half as the Cats pulled to a 40-40 tie after 7:24 seconds. A 15-3 run gave ACM a 55-43 advantage with 7:40 left. Potomac State closed to 55-47 but ACM out-scored Potomac State 17-8 to close out the game.
The Trojans had 4 players in double figures. Calvin Lee led the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds to complete a "double-double". Ru White had 13 points and George DeGroat and Ryan Burts had 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Trojans were 28-49 (57%) from inside the arc but only 3-11 (27%) from the outside. Foul shooting remains a problem as ACM converted only 7 of 15 for 47%
Maryland JUCO Tournament

The Trojans suffered a tough 81-80 loss to the Hagerstown CC Hawks in the quarter-finals of the Maryland JUCO Tournament to fall to 13-14 on the season. ACM fell behind by 18 points (41-23) with 6 minutes left in the first half, but battled back to within 10 points (52-42) at halftime. They closed the gap in the second half and led 64-63 with 11:56 left. A 9-1 run gave ACM a 73-64 advantage with 9:25 on the clock. With two Trojans on the bench with foul trouble the Hawks reeled off 13 points to go back in front 77-73 at the 4:30 mark. With the Trojans leading 80-79, Hagerstown hit two free throws to take an 81-80 lead. ACM had 2 put-back chances and had the last shot with 11 seconds remaining but couldn't get the shots to fall. Foul shooting proved to be fatal to the Trojan chances as they converted only 10 of 20 attempts.
George DeGroat had a game-high 29 points and 20 rebounds and Calvin Lee had 12 points and 10 rebounds for "double-doubles". TJ Granger had 13 points and Ru White added 10 points to the cause.
The Trojans were 35 for 65 (54%) from the inside and missed their only three-point attempt.

The 6th seeded Trojans opened up post season play on a good note when they defeated the 11th seeded Harford CC Owls 93-76 in the first round of the MD JUCO Tournament Tuesday night at Bob Kirk Arena. The score was close in the first 10 minutes until ACM was able to pull away to take a 40-27 lead into the half.
Calvin Lee came up big in this game scoring a game-high 26 points and 19 rebounds. Both were season highs for Lee. He also contributed 5 blocked shots. George DeGRoat, Ru White, and Ryan Burts each added 13 points.
ACM had an excellent night shooting from the inside, scoring on 29 of 44 shots for 66%. They were 5 for 16 (31%) from outside the arc. Foul shooting continues to improve as the Trojans were 20-30 from the line for 67%.

The Trojans ended the regular season with a 76-66 win over the Hagerstown Hawks at Bob Kirk Arena on Saturday night. Leading 34-33 at the half the Trojans turned up the offense and tightened the defense to secure the victory. They held the high scoring Hawks to 20 points less than their season average.
George DeGroat and Calvin Lee both had "double-doubles". DeGroat had 27 points and 11 rebounds and Lee added 15 points and 13 rebounds, in addition to 5 assists and 4 blocked shots.
ACM was 28-58 (48%) inside the stripe and 1-7 (14%) from the outside. Foul shooting improved to 74% on a 17-23 performance.

ACM got back on the winning track with a decisive 78-59 win over the host Cougars of Frederick CC. Leading by 2 points at the half, the Trojans put on an offensive and defensive display to secure the 19 point margin of victory. Calvin Lee had a "double-double" scoring 12 points and garnering 11 rebounds. Tarelle Jackson had a team-high 15 points. Terrence Green and TJ Granger had 13 and 12 points each.
The Trojans were 29-51 (57%) inside and 5-13 (38%) outside the arc. They were 5-18 from the line for 28%

The Trojans fell to 9-14 over-all and 9-7 in the Conference with a 96-83 loss to the host Cecil College Seahawks. Cecil enter the game 21-0 and ranked #1 in NJCAA Division II. ACM trailed 41-33 at halftime and fell behind by 14 points early in the second half. The Trojans battled back to within six points late in the game but lost four players to fouls and were unable to pull out the game.
Four ACM players were in double figures, with George DeGroat having 26 points and 12 boards, Calvin Lee added 16 points, Tarelle Jackson had 14 and Terrence Green had 12 in the losing cause.
The Trojans had a great game from the inside, scoring on 31 of 51 attempts for 61%. They were 4 of 12 (33%) from long range and shot 9-15 (60%) from the line.

The Trojans got back into the win column on Saturday night as they defeated the visiting Howard CC Dragons 78-59. Up only 35-30 at the half the Trojans put on an offensive and defensive display that resulted the the 19 point victory margin.
George DeGroat scored 25 points and had 18 rebounds in the winning cause. Calvin Lee had 19 points and Tarelle Jackson added 18 to the win.
The Trojans shot 48% (22-46) from inside the arc and 36% (5-14) from the outside. They were 68% (19-28) from the foul line.

ACM lost their 4th straight game on Wednesday night as they were defeated by the host Griffons of Montgomery College - Germantown 68-64. This was not a conference game. George DeGroat had 17 points and 15 rebounds and Ru White added 13 points and 9 assists in the losing cause.
ACM shot 45% (26-58) inside but were only 10% (1-10) from three-point range. Foul shooting continues to be a problem as the Trojans shot only 45% (9-20) from the line.

Despite George DeGroat's 37 points the Trojans dropped to 8-12 overall and 8-5 in the MD JUCO Conference with a 96-95 loss to the host Chesapeake College Skipjacks on Friday night. ACM trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half but battled back to an 11 point deficit (54-43) at the half. ACM took a 95-94 lead but with 0.8 seconds on the clock Chesapeake converted 2 foul shots to win the game. Chesapeake scored 13 "3's" in the game with over a 60% average.
Besides DeGroat's 37 points he had 17 rebounds. Calvin Lee had 20 points and Tarelle Jackson and Ru White had 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Trojans shot well from the field, scoring on 36 of 56 (64%) inside the arc and 5 of 15 (33%) from the outside. Foul shooting continues to plague ACM as the team converted only 8 of 17 attempts (47%).

The Trojans continue to struggle to find the right combination as they lost their second consecutive game 87-77 to the host PGCC Owls on Wednesday evening. ACM held a 14 point lead in the first half, but three straight turnovers allowed the Owls to cut the lead to 4 points at halftime. Defensive lapses and the inability to keep the Owls off the boards resulted in the 10 point margin in the loss.
Ru White had 21 points for the Trojans. Tarelle Jackson contributed 16 points and Calvin Lee had 14 points and 11 rebounds for a "double-double".
ACM was 18-39 (46%) inside the arc and 9-19 (47%) outside. The Trojans were only 14-25 (56%) from the line.

ACM dropped to 8-10 overall with an 89-84 loss to the Hagerstown Hawks on Sunday afternoon in Hagerstown. After trailing 43-35 at halftime the Trojans pulled close but could not overcome some crucial turnovers and fouls late in the game. This was not a MD JUCO Conference game.
Three Trojans were in double figures with George DeGroat leading the team with 29 points. Tarelle Jackson had 25 points and Ryan Burts added 12 points. DeGroat also had 12 rebounds for a "double-double".
ACM was 28-63 (44%) inside and 6-12 (50%) from outside the arc. Foul shooting continues to plague the Trojans as they converted only 10 of 22 attempts for 45%.

The Trojans jumped out to a 9-0 lead and then cruised to their 8th victory on the season by defeating the Anne Arundel CC Pioneers 86-52. ACM used a balanced attack with every Trojan getting on the scoreboard. George DeGroat lead the scoring with 24 points; Calvin Lee had 18 points; Tarelle Jackson and Terrence Green had 15 and 12 points respectively. DeGroat and Lee had 13 rebounds each.
ACM shot well from inside the arc, scoring on 35 of 51 attempts (69%). They were 2-9 (22%) from the outside. Foul shooting was again sub-par as they converted only 10-17 attempts for 59%.

ACM improved to 7-9 on Wednesday with a convincing 82-59 win over the Lions of CCBC-Dundalk. The Trojan defense held Dundalk to 33 points less than their scoring average.
Three Trojans were in double figures with George DeGroat and Calvin Lee recording "double-doubles". DeGroat had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Lee had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tarelle Jackson added 10 points.
ACM shot well from the inside, scoring on 26 of 43 attempts for 60%. They were 5-18 (28%) in "3's" and only 15-31 (48%) from the line.

The Trojans got back on the winning track with a convincing 88-73 win over Southern Maryland on Monday night. ACM jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and steadily pulled away from the Hawks. ACM lead by as many as 22 points during the contest.
Every Trojan participated in the scoring with George DeGroat having a game-high 33 points and 11 rebounds. Tarelle Jackson added 13 points and Ryan Burts had 11 rebounds.
Overall, ACM shot 53% from the floor (36-68) including 4-9 (44%) from the outside. They were 12-23 (52%) from the charity line.

ACM fell to 5-9 overall and 5-3 in the Maryland JUCO with a 67-65 overtime loss to the Garrett College Lakers. The Trojans fell behind early and trailed 34-26 at the half. They were up 5 points (53-48) with 4:35 remaining but Garrett went on an 8-0 run to take a 56-53 lead with 57.3 seconds left. A steal and 3-point play tied the score at 56 with 37.2 seconds left. ACM had a chance to win the game but failed to get off a shot as the game went into overtime.
Calvin Lee and George DeGroat were the only Trojans in double figures with 24 and 18 points respectively. DeGroat also hauled in 13 rebounds.
ACM went 25-54 (46%) inside but shot only 2-12 (17%) from outside the arc. They were 9-14 (64%) from the line.

The Trojans won their 5th game on the season and their first of the new year with an 83-78 win over Montgomery - Takoma Park. After leading 40-32 at halftime ACM struggled with turnovers and poor shooting to come out with the victory.
Ru White lead four Trojans in double figures with 25 points. George DeGroat had 17 points; Calvin Lee had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Tarelle Jackson added 12 points.
ACM was 24 - 45 (53%) in side the arc and 7 - 12 (58%) from the outside. They shot only 41% (14-34) from the line.

The Trojans played the 11th ranked Trailblazers of Vincennes University even for the first half but fell prey to cold shooting in the second half to fall to 4-8 at the Christmas break. Up 31-28 at the half, Vincennes opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 10 point lead (38-28) that the Trojans could not overcome.
George DeGroat was the only Trojan in double figures with 15 points.
ACM shot a miserable 33% (14-43) from the inside and 11% (1-9) from outside the arc. They were 76% (12-18) from the foul line. In addition to the poor shooting the Trojans committed 26 turnovers.

ACM fell to 4-7 overall with a 69-53 loss to the Tribunes of Monroe CC of Syracuse, NY in the opening round of the Pepsi Christmas Classic. The Trojans played a good first half, being up by as many as 11 points at the 5:35 mark (28-17). Monroe closed to within 3 points (32-29) at halftime. The Tribunes took a 40-38 lead in the second half and gradually pulled away for the lopsided win.
George DeGroat and Ryan Burts were the only two Trojans in double figures with 20 and 12 points respectively.
ACM was 22-39 (56%) inside and 1-3 (33%) outside the arc. Foul shooting continues to plague ACM as they converted only 6 of 16 attempts (38%).

The Trojans fell to 4-6 overall and 4-2 in the MD JUCO conference as they were upset by Baltimore City CC in Baltimore. ACM held a 9 point advantage at the half but scored only 18 points in the second half to suffer the loss.

The Trojans had an off night from the floor, shooting only 22% (2-9) from the outside and 50% (19-38) inside. Turnovers (27) and foul shooting continues to plague ACM as the team converted only 10 of 18 for 56%.

The Trojans won their third game in a row with an 87-63 win over Harford CC Saturday evening at Bob Kirk Arena. The victory pulls ACM to 4-5 overall and 4-1 in the Maryland JUCO Conference. The Trojans jumped out to an 11-2 advantage and never trailed for the rest of the game. Harford pull to within a point at 61-15 eight minutes into the game but ACM pulled steadily ahead to have a comfortable 41-28 halftime edge.
They Trojans had five players in double figures with Ru White leading the way with 18 points. He also had a team high 11 rebounds. Calvin Lee had 17 points. George DeGroat had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. TJ Granger and Ryan Burts had 13 and 12 points respectively.
ACM shot 54% (28-52) inside the arc and 44% (7-16) from outside. They were only 56% (10-18) from the foul line.

The Trojans picked up their 3rd win of the season with a 71-46 win over the Cardinals of CCBC-Catonsville. ACM jumped out to a 10-0 lead and held a 32-27 edge at the half. The second half was all ACM as they out-scored Catonsville 39-19.
George DeGroat led 4 Trojans in double figures with 20 points to go with 10 rebounds. Nathan Herriott had 13 points; Ru White added 11 and Calvin Lee had 10 points.
ACM had a good night from the floor, shooting 50% (28-56) inside the arc and 44% (4-9) from the outside. They were 60% (3-5) from the line.

ACM had little trouble gaining their 2nd win of the year with an 83-62 victory over the Montgomery-Rockville Knights Wednesday night in Rockville. The Trojans jump out to an early 10-0 lead and were not threatened throughout the game. The halftime score was 36-23.
The Trojans were led by sophomores George DeGroat and Calvin Lee with 23 and 17 points respectively. They each garnered 12 rebounds.
As a team ACM shot 60% (30-60) from the inside and 30% (3-10) from the outside. Foul shooting improved to 70% (14-20).

ACM dropped its 5th game of the season with a 60-54 loss to #4 ranked Monroe in the second game of the Classic. The Trojans held a 27-19 lead at halftime but Monroe, using some key "3's" fought back to secure the victory.
George DeGroat had 13 points and TJ Granger added 11 for the Trojans. As a team ACM was 20-46 (43%) from the inside and 3-11 (27%) from outside the arc. They were 5-7 (71%) from the line.

The Trojans lost their 4th game of the season 96-89 to Globe Institute of New York in the Hagerstown Thanksgiving Classic. Globe was ranked #12 in Division I NJCAA. ACM held a 41-39 lead at the half but made some key mistakes at the end to the game in the loss.
Calvin Lee led all scorers with 31 points; he also had 13 rebounds. George DeGroat was the only other Trojan in double figures with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
ACM was 29 of 58 (50%) inside the arc and 4 of 5 (80%) from the outside. They sot 19 of 28 (68%) from the line. The biggest improvement was in turnovers where the Trojans committed only 15 as compared to 47 with Germantown.

The Trojans lost their third game of the season and a rare loss at home, in what Coach Mike Baker called "the worse game ever played at Allegany College", 78-71 to the Griffins of Montgomery College - Germantown Campus. The Griffins came to Cumberland averaging over 100 points a game. The Trojans self-destructed by committing 47 turnovers and shooting only 8-21 (38%) from the foul line.
Nathan Herriott led all scorers with 20 points on a 10-12 night. George DeGroat had a "double-double" with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Calvin Lee chipped in 10 points.
The Trojans shot 66% (27-41) from outside and were 33% (3-9) from inside the arc.

The Trojans opened their home season with an 83-60 win over the Frederick CC Cougars on Saturday night. The victory was the first of the season for the Trojans where they improved to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Maryland JUCO. ACM played excellent defense and held a commanding 47-30 lead at the half. They were never threatened in the second half as they pulled away to the 23 point win.
George DeGroat had 24 points and 13 rebounds; Ru White added 19 points and 14 rebounds; and Tarelle Jackson had 16 points.
ACM was 29-48 (60%) from the inside and 5-10 (50%) from outside the arc. Foul shooting, however, was another story as they converted only 10 of 20 attempts for 50%.

Vincennes' University gave the Trojans their second defeat of the season with a 93-72 win on their home court. ACM trailed by 9 (50-41) at halftime but the Trailblazer inside game proved difficult to solve as Vincennes pulled away for the 21 point victory.
Calvin Lee had 16 points and 12 rebounds for his second "double-double" in a row. The only other Trojan in double figures was Steve Shepp with his own "double-double" of 10 points and 11 assists.
Statistically the Trojans were 68% (25-37) from inside the arc and 67% (4-6) from the outside. They were 71% (10-14) from the foul line.

The Trojans, with only two returning players from last season's 24-9 team, opened the 2007-08 season with an 83-79 loss to Simmons of Kentucky in the first round of the Vincennes University Classic in Indiana. ACM fell behind early and trailed by 13 (39-26) at the half. The Trojans fought back to within 2 points late in the game but were unable to close the gap for the win. The deciding factor was at the foul line where ACM converted only 16 of 30 attempts.
The Trojans were led by sophomore Calvin Lee's 32 points and 19 rebounds. Steven Shepp and George DeGroat added 11 points and Kahri Harris had 10 points.
Despite the 53% showing from the foul line the Trojans were a respectable 24-42 (57%) from the inside and 5-14 (36%) from outside the arc. They only turned the ball over 13 times in their first outing.
